On Monday, January First, we left our December home at Morenga Palms RV Park, and drove a short 37 miles deeper into the AZ Outback and returned to one of our favorite camping spots, Alamo Lake State Park. A You-Tube Video of the drive to Alamo Lake State Park can be watched HERE.
We were able to get our favorite spot in the B Loop....
Site B-13, at the very end of the loop....
And this is the view out of our back window, with Artillery Peak in the right of the photo. The Artillery Peak Area contains large deposits of manganese as well as gold and uranium. Artillery Peak is the "Plug" of an ancient, extinct shield volcano...
We were able to see and get video of a lot of wildlife there...Burros, Raccoons, Kangaroo Rats, Roadrunners and Coyotes. See the Wildlife Video HERE. One of the coyotes was in terrible shape, starving and mangey.
And we met a friendly Roadrunner....
He had fun looking at himself in the phone screen on the "selfie" setting!
A You-Tube Video of some of the wildlife can be watched HERE. When you watch it turn up the volume and you can hear him crunching up the dried mealworms!
Alamo Lake is so remote that Cell Service, and therefore Internet is very poor. When we first tried it we were able to get about .5 megabytes per second up and down on the Verizon Hotspot. So we put up the directional antenna connected to our WeBoost cell phone booster...
After raising it up as far as possible and some aiming of the directional antenna, we were able to get 23 Megabytes per second down, but only 1.5 MBPS up. That means we could watch any video we wanted but uploading video was extremely slow!
The weather at Alamo Lake was perfect! Sunny, light winds and temps in the low 70's. The nights were clear with no moon, so the stargazing was unbelievable! There is NO light pollution and the Milky Way was incredible!
It was way colder at night, dipping into the low 30's so we didn't stay out very long!
We were at Alamo Lake for 9 days...not long enough!
Next stop is Lake Pleasant Regional Park, about 114 miles east, near Phoenix...Watch for an update from Lake Pleasant!
