Today we went to the store...the Boys were dozing...didn't want to disturb them to make the bed...

3 hours later we returned and they were in the same position!  Cats are great to travel with...if you leave them all day they just sleep!

Tomorrow we drive in to Phoenix and visit Chicago Title to sign the papers for the sale of our LAST RENTAL!!  HALLELUJAH!!

Today, Jan 14, is moving day!  Before we left our campsite at White Tank Mountain Regional Park, AZ,  I grabbed a couple of drone shots..had to make it quick because for some reason they don't like drones here....

We then made our way to Cave Creek Regional Park, AZ....a short hop of about 43 miles.  Perfect weather!  Mostly sunny with a high of 71, light winds.

We got set up in camp....sat out in the sun for a while and witnessed a great Arizona sunset!

We will be here at Cave Creek Park for 14 days...

Our time here at White Tank Mountain Regional Park, AZ has been great.  Mostly sunny every day, light winds, daytime temps upper 60s to lower 70s.  We have been hiking, taking the boys out for walks on the leash and in the stroller.  We found a Pomelo Tree nearby that is loaded with fruit! WHAT IS A POMELO?  A fruit that goes by many names; pomelos are also called pompelmoes, shaddock or pummelos. These delicious citrus fruits originated in South and Southeast Asia. Pomelo is the largest out of all the citrus fruits with a close relation to grapefruit.  A lot of the size is the rind and the thick membrane surrounding the fruit itself. 

Pomelos are the largest member of the citrus family (which is why their Latin name is Citrus Maxima – literally the biggest citrus). Like other citrus fruits, pomelos are high in vitamin C. Depending on the variety, pomelos can weigh between 2 and 4 pounds! The flavor of a pomelo is very much like the grapefruit, but much milder. 

Pomelos are sweeter and don’t carry that tangy, bitterness that can be associated with grapefruit.  We find them absolutely delightful!

We are near Luke Air Force Base.  They are flying their F-16 and F-35 fighter jets over us here at the campsite every weekday...

We drove over to the end of the runway at Luke  AFB to get a close view and shot some video....

This week the Boys (Bill and Ted) got a good brushing!....

 They lost a lot of hair!....

It wore Bill out...But he loves to relax anyway!....

We all like to relax in the sun around here!....

Much better than the single digits and snow at home!

On Tuesday, Jan 2, we left Alamo Lake State Park, AZ and made our way to White Tank Mountain Regional Park, in the White Tank Mountains west of Phoenix.  A drive of about 123 miles.  Weather was clear and calm (as usual) and about 63.

Along the way we saw these huge haystacks....Hundreds of them!

The locals tell us that Saudi Arabian investors buy up large tracts of mostly worthless desert land, drill million dollar plus wells, and irrigate the desert to grow alfalfa. They then send the hay home to their country.  Seems they did the same well thing over there and exhausted the ground water supply in the process.

The locals are not thrilled with the situation!  We can see why!  Water is a precious commodity here in the desert, there is a limited supply of groundwater that is only replenished by the  rain...which obviously is scarce here!

When we arrived at White Tank Mountain Regional Park we settled in Site 14...

The White Tank Range, deeply serrated with ridges and canyons, rises sharply from its base to peaks at over 4,000 feet. Infrequent heavy rains cause flash floodwaters to plunge through the canyons and pour onto the plain. These torrential flows, pouring down chutes and dropping off ledges, have scoured out a series of depressions, or tanks, in the white granite rock below, thus giving the mountains their name.

The White Granite is impermeable to water and the "tanks" are usually shaded, so they hold water for quite a long time...considering the climate...

The Early Native Inhabitants of the area visited a lot to take advantage of the water supply.  As you walk up the trail you can see their artwork on the rocks!

We are here at White Tank until Jan. 14th.

Tomorrow we will break camp here and head to White Tank Mountain Regional Park in the mountains west of Phoenix..a short hop of about 123 miles.  Weather is expected to be sunny and warmer...highs near 70.  We will take the route onto I-10...sometimes it can be very busy!
